Niger CNSP - BAZOUM AND ACCOMPLICES TO BE PROSECUTE BEFORE COURT OF LAW

The National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) under the leadership of Lt. Col. Tchiani announced that the deposed President, Bazoum Mohamed, as well as his local and foreign accomplices will be prosecuted before national and international courts for international jurisdiction for "high treason" and "undermining internal and external security matters.
According to the spokesman for the military junta, Colonel-Major Abdrahmane Adamou, the government has the necessary evidence for the exchanges between the former president of state and local and foreign accomplices, including heads of state.
The CNSP also seized the opportunity to denounce "the campaign of intoxication and disinformation", maintained on purpose to discredit the transitional authorities, and "to defeat any negotiated solution to end the crisis". With this accusation, the new authorities of Niamey, who have also reaffirmed their commitment to treat "with dignity" the arrested leaders of the deposed regime, visibly intend to register the detention of former President Bazoum as well as his relatives, in a framework legal now with the opening of legal proceedings against them.
As it was like the case in 2010 under General Salou Djibo's previous CSRD military transition, when ousted President Tandja Mamadou was accused of "high treason" and "financial embezzlement" by the military junta in power at the time, which allowed them to keep him in detention for several months, and thus ease the pressure from international human rights organizations as well as world leaders who denounced an “arbitrary detention” of the overthrown president.
